Wesleyan University’s music scene is buzzing with excitement this April. From soulful recitals to groundbreaking premieres, you do not want to miss these upcoming events.

Digital Collection Launch: Bardic Tradition of Turkmenistan and Iran

  • Date: Friday, April 12, 2024 at 12:00pm
  • Location: Smith Reading Room, Olin Memorial Library
  • Mohammad Geldi Geldi Nejad, known as “Oghlan Bakhshi,” a master of the dutar, a two-stringed lute, and an epic bard, will introduce a digital project based on a decade of study in Turkmenistan and fieldwork among Northern Khorasan bards during the summer of 2022 in Iran. He will also perform some Turkmen songs and instrumental pieces with a special guest performer, Zyyada Jumayeva. A light reception follows the presentation. Graduate Recital: Nat Baldwin

  • Location: World Music Hall
  • A graduate music recital by Nat Baldwin, featuring cross-disciplinary works for spoken text and multiple instruments, as well as a new piece for solo double bass.

Senior Recital: Kriti Williams

  • Explore the creative expressions of our talented student-curators. A senior music recital by Sarah Linsly ’24, featuring a vocal concert exploring the idea of “I Want” in the musical theatre repertoire.

Wesleyan Jazz Orchestra and Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble Concert

  • Dates: Friday, April 26, 2024 at 7:00pm
  • Location: Crowell Concert Hall
  • The Wesleyan University Jazz Orchestra, directed by Professor of Music and African American Studies Jay Hoggard ’76, MA ’91, and the Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble, directed by Noah Baerman, present an exciting evening of classic and contemporary jazz repertoire as the start of the 21st annual Wesleyan Jazz Orchestra Weekend.

Wesleyan Jazz Orchestra Weekend: Craig Harris and Friends Play the Music of Sam Rivers

  • Dates: Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 7:00pm
  • Location: Crowell Concert Hall
  • The concert opens at 7pm with a 45-minute set performed by members of the Wesleyan Jazz Orchestra, directed by Professor of Music and African American Studies Jay Hoggard ’76, MA ’91. This concert is the conclusion of the 21st annual Wesleyan Jazz Orchestra Weekend.
